Grandmothers Campaign

While traveling in sub-Saharan Africa as the United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS, Stephen Lewis recognized that major support was needed for grandmothers who were caring for millions of children who had been orphaned by AIDS.

On International Women’s Day 2006, he founded the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

More than $10 million has been raised for medicine, counselling, school fees and uniforms, nutrition programs, and other support for grandmothers, children in their care and child-headed households.
